The Memorial to the War of 1812 Was Renovated in Just Two Weeks

Public Relations Chair, and President Kathy Miller before digging out all of the weeds that you see there. What a job.

1812 President Kathy Miller digging out bulbs and weeds from around the marker.

Kathy and Phyllis bagged all the bulbs and weeds in plastic bags. Some very nice City of Southport employees came by later and picked up all of the bags so we didn't have to take them home and throw the bags out.

Randy Jones, Director of Tourism for the city of Southport and a project consultant arranged to have the surrounding area enlarged, posts and ropes replaced. The flowers were planted by the City of Southport Beautification Committee.

Jim McKee, Site Manage of Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson and committee consultant, cleaned the inscription and the monument base.

Ronni Millier, director of the Durham VA Medical Center Voluntary Service, shows off the Hormel Compleats meals donated by the Captain Johnston Blakeley Chapter of the U.S. Daughters of 1812. Miller and her team run a food pantry serving homeless veterans throughout the Triangle.

Miller stated that the need for healthy and easily prepared food items is perpetual and she is hopeful that more 1812 Daughters will donate at their statewide meeting in early August and throughout the years to come.
