Additional Information on The Star-Spangled Banner Project

There were 100 Smithsonian Penguin Young Reader Level 4 books entitled, The Star-Spangled Banner delivered by chairman of The Commissioner Charles Gause (CCG) No. 433 Chapter of the National Society of the United States Daughters of 1812. The books were donated to public elementary schools in Brunswick County. 20 books were delivered to 10 schools by Cindy Gulledge, Co-Chair, Brunswick Country Schools/Patrioric Education. There were 50 books delivered to 25 schools by Co-Chair of New Hanover County,  Kitsy Lackey, CCG Librarian, Susan DeGroote, and Dale Spencer. Pender Counties 8 Elementary Schools had 16 books delivered by CCG member Marianne Grant.

The books were delivered along with Star Spangled Banner Day, September 14 rack cards. Not all schools received the books in time as we were interrupted by Hurricane Florence.

Now there is no excuse that our children in three counties won’t have the opportunity to learn about The War of 1812. They just need to go to their school library and sign out The Star-Spangled Banner book to read. Anyone wanting to purchase this book for their children can order it from Amazon-Prime.

As part of Patriotic Education, two books have been delivered to each Brunswick County Elementary School.  New Hanover County Schools delivery was interrupted by Hurricane Florence.  Once we can resume, contact Kitsy Lackey if you would like to help with the delivery of the books. We have 25 schools to get to. There are ten elementary schools in Brunswick County and twenty-five in New Hanover County.Contact Kitsy at  lackeyw@yahoo.com . It was decided at the October 6, 2018 meeting to donate books to the Pender County School District too.
