Commissioner Charles Gause No. 433 Chapter of US Daughters of 1812 Will Meet on February 3, 2018





Commissioner Charles Gause No. 433 Chapter of US Daughters of 1812 will host their first meeting of the new year on February 3, 2018.  Chris Grimes from Roper, NC and Chapter President SAR, historical reenactor will do a program on the War of 1812 US Navy Medicine in North Carolina. This will be a general medicine talk, but will highlight the asst. surgeon and contract surgeons that took care of our sailors along the coast of NC.The meeting will be held at the St. James Community Center, which is on Hwy. 211 at 10:00 am. Check in at the Community Center and the room location will be given at that time. DORIS LANCASTER THOMPSON Obituary


Daughters of 1812,
Member Doris Thompson, of the Snap Dragon Chapter, passed away on January 14, 2018.  We remember Doris, not only for her longevity in life, but her long and active participation as a member of 1812.  She was the state president from 1994-1996 and earned the title of Honorary State President.  
Below is the obituary.  Though not mentioned, Gwen Causey is a niece of Doris.
We warmly remember Doris today on a cold, snowy day.

Mrs. Doris Catherine Lancaster Thompson of Wilmington, NC passed Sunday evening, January 14, 2018.  Mrs. Thompson was born in Brunswick County, NC on December 26, 1925 and was the youngest daughter of the late Berlyn Sellers Lancaster and the late John Newman Lancaster, Sr. of Supply, NC.  She was preceded in death by her husband, George Earl Thompson.  She is survived by her three children, Wayne Earl Thompson, Sr. of Burgaw, NC.; Sue Thompson Schwartz of Pittsboro, NC.; George Kurt Thompson, Sr. (Sue Wilkinson); her sister Betty Lancaster Jones of Wilmington, NC.; seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.  Mrs. Thompson was a member of First Baptist Church of Wilmington, NC.  She was an avid Genealogist and was a member of the following organizations: Honorary State Regent (1991-1994) North Carolina Society Daughters of the American Revolution; Honorary State President (2006-2009) North Carolina Society Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America; Honorary State President (1994-1996) United States Daughters of War of 1812; Colonial Dames XVII Century; United Daughters of Confederacy; Daughters of Colonial Wars; Daughters of American Colonists; Eastern Star.
The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Champions Assisted Living, Davis Health Care and Cape Fear Hospice. In Lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
Funeral services originally scheduled for Thursday, January 18, 2018, have been rescheduled for Saturday January 20, 2018 at two o'clock in the afternoon at White Funeral and Cremation Service Chapel, 603 Ocean Highway, Bolivia. Entombment will follow in the Oleander Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Wilmington.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Let's Commemorate the Battle of New Orleans and the War of 1812



January 8, 2018  is the 4th annual anniversary of Andrew Jackson's victory at the Battle of New Orleans that Commissioner Charles Gause Chapter daughters have gathered on the Garrison Lawn in Southport at the 1812 marker to lay flowers, name our soldiers/sailors/patriots, toll a bell and commemorate the Battle of New Orleans and the War of 1812.
After the ceremony the participants adjourned to Fishy Fishy Restaurant in Southport to continue celebrating the occasion.

1812 Members Celebrating at Fishy Fishy Restaurant in Southport

January 8th - Commemoration of the Battle of New Orleans at 11:00 in Southport







We will lay flowers at the 1812 monument on the Garrison Lawn in Southport, NC at 11 am next Monday Jan 8th in commemoration of the Battle of New Orleans.  We will go to Fishy Fishy for lunch afterwards (if anyone wants to know, Oliver's will be closed for some repairs, and Ports of Call is closed on Mondays)

Anyone who can bring some camellias from their yard, please let me know on Sunday.  Many may be damaged by freezing temps, so flowers may have to be artificial.

February 3rd 1812 Meeting Scheduled at St. James Community Center


The Commissioner General Gause Meeting is scheduled for February 3, 2018 at the St. James Community Center Building in Southport, NC across the street from the entrance to St. James Plantation. The guest speaker is Chris Grimes from Roper, NC and Chapter President SAR, Historical reenactor will do a program on Medical/Medicine/Garrison Surgeon during the War of 1812. Lunch has not been decided yet. The time the meeting will start will also be confirmed.
