The 131st National Society U.S.D. 1812 Associate Council held their meeting on April 6-8, 2023 at the Capital Hilton Hotel in Washington, DC. Attending the council to support Ruth Hart Rice were Commissioner Charles Gause Chapter President, Carol Jutte, and Commissioner Charles Gause Chapter past President Pat Gooding.
Ruth Hart Rice is an associate member of our Commissioner Charles Gause No.433 Chapter of the National Society of the United States Daughters of 1812. Ruth was endorsed by Michigan in June 2009 for a position as Honorary Vice President National when a position came available. This position is for life and one came available in February, 2023. Ruth Rice has served many positions over the years. Ruth is a member of the General Alexander Macomb Chapter in Michigan. Ruth has been chapter secretary, chapter vice president, chapter president and was Michigan’s State President.
In the meantime, Ruth had started going to Washington D.C. to attend national meetings and learn more about 1812. Ruth was Sgt-At-Arms and Curator at the National level. Ruth assisted Patricia Trollinger, President National from 1994-1997 with organizing the first National Newsletter. It was important for the members to be updated and informed. At the same time Ruth established the newsletter and updated newsletters for the National Society Dames of the Court of Honor and the National Society of New England Women as this was the beginning of the computer age. Ruth was helpful with hosting a tea at the 1812 house.
As Ruth said, “As you can see, 1812 is one of my favorite organizations”. In April 2023, Ruth was sashed as an Honorary Vice President National for the state of New Hampshire. It was very special for Ruth as her son and his family were in attendance.
