National Martime Day is May 22nd

The Commissioner Charles Gause Chapter of 1812 members gathered around the US Merchant Marine monument on May 22, 2019 in Wilmington Riverfront Park to honor the US Merchant Marines.  The ladies placed a wreath on the monument and sang the poem shown below.  The city of Wilmington, along with International Seaman’s Center, the US Coast Guard and the Wilmington Propeller Club all took part at the presentation of the new US. Merchant Marine Monument on May 22, 2017 at Riverfront Park in Wilmington, NC. The “Absolute Black Monument” which was installed by Mount Airy based N.C. Granite Corporation, and is nine feet tall and weighs 5,780 lbs. We are thankful for the service of the Merchant Marines.

The ladies gathered around the monument to sing a special song and have a program for the event of laying the wreath on the monument.
