Memorial Day Ceremony at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 28th Inside the St. James Community Center on Route 211.
American Legion Post 543 will host the community's annual Memorial Day ceremony at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 28, 2018 inside the St. James Community Center on Route 211 in Southport, NC.All local communities are invited to attend. Colors will be presented; the National Anthem will be sung and a memorial wreath will be placed followed by Taps. Ms. Lois Moore will sing.
The guest speaker will be Secretary Larry Hall, of the North Carolina Department of Military and Veteran Affairs. Larry D. Hall is currently serving as the Secretary for the North Carolina Department of Military & Veterans Affairs.
Born and raised in Durham County, Secretary Hall earned a B.S. with Honors in Political Science and Business from Johnson C. Smith University and a J.D. from the School of Law at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Secretary Hall formerly represented Durham County, North Carolina's 29th District in the House of Representatives, since 2006. Secretary Hall served 16 years in the United States Marines and Marine Corps Reserves and served in support of Operations in the Middle East in Lebanon and Iran. Secretary Hall has been awarded the Navy Achievement Medal, the Marine Corps Reserve Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, and a Meritorious Unit Citation.
