We are saddened to share that our former member, Marie Hardee Preston, passed away on September 17, 2026.
Marie was a valued member of the National Society United States Daughters of 1812 from 2014 to 2025. She was also known for her devoted service to local historical and heritage organizations in the Wilmington area, including her involvement with the Lord Craven Chapter, Colonial Dames XVII Century.
Historical records and chapter announcements reflect Marie’s faithful participation and leadership, including her service as chaplain for the Lord Craven Chapter and the Commissioner Charles Gause No. 433 Chapter. She was also affiliated with the Stamp Defiance Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
A native of the area, Marie graduated magna cum laude from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in 1979. Her ancestor was Jesse B. Scarborough of North Carolina.
At this time, we do not yet have information regarding a celebration of life service or where condolences may be sent to Marie’s family. When more definite information becomes available, we will share it by email and post it on our chapter blogs.
