The Commissioner Charles Gause Chapter 433 NSUSD of 1812 hosted a dedication of The United States Daughters of 1812 Marker. The Rededication of the Deep Water Point 1812-1814 Marker at Deep Point Marina & Yacht Club 1301 Ferry Road SE, Southport NC originally erected by the National Society United States Daughters of 1812 was held Tuesday, June 7th, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. At the Deep Water Point Marker rededication, prior President Pat Gooding, of General Gause 1812 welcomed everyone to the event, Vice-President of General Gause 1812 chapter Pat Tucker gave the Invocation., General Gause 1812 member Anne Boone gave the Pledge of Allegiance, while Pat Gooding introduced distinguished guests. The Keynote Speaker was Gwen Causey, Honorary Vice President National of 1812. The new Deep Water Point Marker was unveiled by Registrar of the Snap Dragon 1812 chapter Faye Floyd and President Carol Jutte of General Gause 1812 chapter. Closing remarks were made by Pat Gooding. General Gause and the Snap Dragon 1812 chapters have worked together to raise funds to purchase the new marker. 1812 North Carolina State President, Laura Edwards, and Snap Dragon 1812 Registrar traveled from Raleigh, NC to attend the Rededication of the Deep Water Point 1812-1814 Marker.
In 2012, North Carolina celebrated the Bicentennial of the War of 1812. One of the events was the placing of the Deep Water Point Historical Marker. In 2020 a hurricane made landfall in Brunswick County and devastated the lower Cape Fear area. That same year two tropical storms and another hurricane made landfall. As a result, the marker was blown down and suffered damage that could not be repaired.
