Happy New Year, Daughters of 1812!!
On Tuesday, January 7, 2020, at 11:00a.m. our chapter will gather for the 6th consecutive year around the 1812 monument on the Garrison Lawn at Ft. Johnston in Southport, NC to commemorate the 205th Anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans fought on January 8, 2015. Lunch will follow at Fishy Fishy. Not a meeting, this is always a fun event and a time for some great fellowship. Our first event in 2015 took place on a sunny, 16-degree day. One never knows what to expect here.
On Saturday, February 1st at 10 am the Commissioner Charles Gause Chapter will meet at the newly renovated Indian Trail Meeting Hall, 113 W Moore St next to the Harper Library. Doors open at 9:30. Lunch will follow at another local restaurant TBA (Fishy Fishy will be closed for their annual spiff-up). Gen. Don Parker, former Commander of Sunny Point, was our scheduled speaker, but his house sold fast, and he and Debbie have moved to Florida. We have a substitute program plan.
Kitsy Lackey reminds us to collect and bring Box Tops for Education. Please bring to our Feb 1st meeting. Thank you Kitsy! And Dale Spencer is still collecting for the VA Clinic in Wilmington. Please bring items for that effort as well.
Friday, May 22 is National Maritime Day, and our Chapter plans to gather, as we did last year, at the Maritime Monument in Waterfront Park downtown Wilmington on that morning to lay a wreath and honor our nation’s Mariners. Last year was our first time to do this lovely and moving commemoration. More information will be forthcoming. Naturally, lunch will follow!
Our June meeting will be the first Saturday, June 6, at 11 am (doors open at 11) the Pilot House on Water Street downtown Wilmington. Dolley Madison will be our VIP guest speaker (in the form of the delightful Jane Thomas of Cherokee Chapter in Greensboro). What fun!!
See you all soon,
Kathy Miller, President
Cindy Sellers, Vice President
