Veterans Day ceremony on Monday, November 11, 2019 at the St James Veterans Memorial



The St James. American Legion Post 543 will hold the annual Veterans Day ceremony on Monday, November 11, 2019 at the St James Veterans Memorial next to the St James Town Hall. The ceremony will begin promptly at 11:00 am. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

The colors will be presented by the Post 543 Honor Guard. Patriotic music will be sung by Ms.Lois Moore. Each of the Service songs will be played on the bagpipes by Dennis Ryan as our veterans are recognized.

Our guest speaker this year will be Colonel Heather Carlisle, Commander of the Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point. Colonel Carlisle was commissioned in the Army Transportation Corps and has served in a variety of command and staff assignments in her 24-year career. She has been stationed in numerous locations to include Hawaii, Alaska, Iraq, Afghanistan and the Pentagon. In August, 2018 Colonel Carlisle assumed command of the 596th Transportation Brigade and Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point.

Seating will be provided. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place inside the St James Community Center.

Commissioner Charles Gause Chapter of US Daughters of 1812 Meeting Held on October 6, 2019



Gwen Causey was the  guest speaker at the Commissioner Charles Gause Chapter of  US Daughters of 1812  on October 6, 2019 at the Southport Gourmet and Sushi Restaurant in Southport, NC. The program was on the dedication of the monument erected on Deadman's Island, Halifax, Nova Scotia in May, 2012 and the marker dedication in February, 2019 for the 15 men who died in prison in Bermuda.





Kathy Miller, Presidsent and Cindy Sellers, Vice-President are  holding a sample of the children's book that will be delivered to  numerous elementary school librarians in five counties in NC. Last year the program was so successful that Kathy and Cindy decided with the approval of the membership to do it again this year.We do need members to volunteer to deliver the books. More details will follow. 


Maryann Grant helped with the delivery of last years book to all the Pender County Schools.

Box Tops for Education Program



Kitsy Lackey, 1812 committee chair is collecting coupons for the  Box Tops for Education Program and would like our 1812 members to remove the coupons off of the products below and bring them to our next meeting. For a complete list of items displaying educational coupons visit this website.

VA Clinic Received Lots of Donations Delivered by Dale Spencer


Dale Spencer,  Committee Chair for the  Veteran Outreach Program delivered the snacks to the VA Clinic today.  Tyra Hoffman was thrilled with all the goodies for the Veterans. The total donation amount in money and snack donations totaled $130.00 Thanks to our generous members.
The  VA Clinic is located at the entrance of Wilmington Airport.
