America's Second War for Independence
The Captain Johnston Blakeley Chapter Daughters of 1812 held their first meeting/luncheon of the year on May 19, 2012 at the NCSU University Club in Raleigh, NC.The guest speaker at the Captain Johnston Blakeley Chapter Meeting was David Brook, Director, Division of Historical Resources and chair, War of 1812 Bicentennial Committee. He will also be giving the Welcome speech at 9:30 A.m. at the June 29th Symposium of The Naval War of 1812 North Carolina Maritime Museum in Beaufort, NC. There will be an entire day of events. Below is information on the October 20th Conference to Commemorate the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 at Fort Johnston, Southport, North Carolina.
Beginning at 9:00 A.M and throughout the day, living history demonstrations will take place on the Garrison lawn. All talks will be in the Southport Community Center.
