Commissioner Charles Gause Chapter USD 1812 June 5, 2021 Meeting

 

                                       

President Pat Gooding was happy to hold our Commissioner Charles Gause Chapter USD 1812  June 5, 2021 meeting in a nice location in Southport, NC.

Jane Johnson presented a most interesting program on her ancestor Lt. Colonel Benjamin Forsyth and his body servant Charles Gibson of Stokes Co. NC. Forsyth County is named in honor for Benjamin Forsyth.   Both men were in the War of 1812. Benjamin was killed 28 June 1814 at Odelltown, Canada. Charles Gibson returned to North Carolina after his master’s death.  Gibson was a slave and could have stayed in Canada as a freeman and yet he walked back to North Carolina.  He later died in his 80’s and is buried in the colored section of the Moravian cemetery in Winston-Salem. 

                                           

               

            

Charles Gibson who Jane Johnson mentioned in her talk.  Charles Gibson was denied an 1812 pension and was buried in an unmarked grave.  In 2018, the graves in the Cemetery were marked only with the word “Beloved”.  For his contribution to the War of 1812, it would be fitting for his grave to be marked with his name.

On December 18th at 12:00 pm, 2021, Commissioner Charles Gause United States Daughters of 1812 #433 (NC0025P) will be helping Wilmington National Cemetery to Remember and Honor our veterans by laying Remembrance wreaths on the graves of our country's fallen heroes.

Please help us honor and remember as many fallen heroes as possible by sponsoring remembrance wreaths, volunteering on December 18th, or inviting your family and friends to attend with you.

Earth Day Was April 22, 2021

 

Earth Day is an international event celebrated around the world to pledge support for environmental protection. The year 2021 marks the 51st anniversary of the annual celebrations. This year's theme for Earth Day is Restore Our Earth.

National Vietnam War Veterans Day is March 29th

  National Vietnam War Veterans Day is a US holiday observed annually on March 29. It recognizes veterans who served in the US military during the Vietnam War. It should not be confused with Veterans Day.

Commissioner Charles Gause No.433 Chapter of the National Society of the United States Daughters of 1812 Held February 6, 2021 Meeting on Zoom

 We just had our 2nd 1812 meeting this year on February 6, 2021 and it was a Zoom meeting. Jane Johnson introduced our speaker McAllie Givens the Collection Coordinator for the Old Baldy Foundation. She presented an informative Power Point on the Three Lighthouses of Bald Head Island.

Our Commissioner Charles Gause Chapter had 181 wreaths purchased for 2020, which is fantastic. We had 120 purchased in 2019. So far this year with doing the 2 for 1 Sale we have 79 wreaths purchased online. Once the checks have been processed we will have many more wreaths purchased which is giving us a great start for 2021. You can buy a wreath at any time this year.
