Presidents Report
Commissioner Charles Gause Chapter#433

As President of the Commissioner Charles Gause Chapter, I can say that I work with a great, motivated group of women.  We started off the year with purchasing rack cards, Star Spangled Posters and these were placed in area libraries and community centers to promote Patriotic Education.  100 copies of The Star Spangled Banner by Nancy Lambert, a Smithsonian Level 4 book for young readers were purchased and distributed to 3 counties, Brunswick, New Hanover, and Pender County elementary schools.  Each school library received 2 books and 2 Star Spangled Banner Day rack cards.  The books were distributed by Co-Chairs Kitsy Lackey and Cindy Gulledge, Librarian, Susan De Groote, and member Dale Spencer.   The goal was to have this completed by Flag Day, September 14th, but we were interrupted by Hurricane Florence.  After Florence and some New Hanover county schools having to be relocated Chair Kitsy Lackey collected 278 Box Tops for Education from chapter members and these were given to Alderman Elementary school in Wilmington, NC.

To the meeting agendas we added the new Ritual, and a Flag Minute led by member Ann Boone. Chapter By-Laws were revised by a committee of chapter members and presented at the October meeting and voted in at the February meeting. Changes included e-communication voting and Standing rules for chapter property.
Veterans Chair Dale Spencer collected $147.23 for our local VA Clinic in Wilmington.

The CCG Chapter presented 8 awards, medals and $200.00 cash to area High school ROTC/JROTC programs on their respective awards night.
Members also participated in The Battle of New Orleans on January 8th at the 1812 monument on the lawn at Ft. Johnston, Southport, NC,  Wreaths Across America, Chair Carol Hart reported 39 wreaths sold, and placed on graves at the National Cemetery in Wilmington,  4th of July parade in Southport, and the Friends of Ft. Caswell Rifle Range WWI monument, Caswell Beach, Oak Island, NC.,  May 22nd  Merchant Marine Day.

Four new members have joined Commissioner Charles Gause since last August.
In excess of $700.00 was donated by the CCG Chapter which included $200 to the North Carolina room at National Headquarters, $100 Ancestor Plaque in memory of Bonnie Becmer Hardy, $100 to Chalmette Battlefield, $100 by member Linda Rivenbark , Natchez Trace, $125 schools,  a “voice” at the February meeting made a $50 donation to the Merchant Marine Library.

Public Relations Chair, Phyllis Wilson had 7 articles submitted with photos of chapter members in area newspapers.  Secretary, Pat Tucker has written an article for the Newsletter (Gray book) to be published in August 2019 edition.  Chapter note cards/print are in the February Gray Book for sale. This chapter fundraiser was implemented by Past-President Linda Rivenbark.
We continue to do our work on Betsy’s Rock, (the 1812 marker) and are working with Southport Historical Society, The City of Southport, Mr. Jim McKee, Site manager Brunswick Town/Ft. Anderson State Historic Site for a Marker to be placed near the USD1812 of North Carolina monument erected April 13, 1938.
