St. James Episcopal Church Graveyard

1812 OCTOBER MEETING ~ SATURDAY, OCTOBER 3rd

The Charles Gause Chapter USD1812 will meet Saturday, October 3, 2015 at St. James Episcopal Church, 25 South 3rd Street in Wilmington, NC.  We will gather at 10:30 at the Vestry Door under the Cloister.  Daughter Susan DeGroote will be on hand to direct us.  We will have an opportunity to see the painting of Christ found in the captain's cabin on the La Fortuna by scavengers after the ship went down.  The painting by Spanish artist Franciso Pacheco, and named Ecce Homo, Latin for Behold the Man was given to St. James Espiscopal Church in 1751.  Our guide and speaker, Virginia Callaway will talk on the history of the Saint James Graveyard that includes grave of War of 1812 casualties and veterans.  The mother of Johnstone Blakely is also buried there.  We will place flowers on those graves.
Parking is available on the street or nearby.  Some business lots may be available if they are closed on Saturdays.  Please bring your copy of the 2015-2016 budget which was emailed to members.
