President Betsy Hamer presents our chapter's accomplishments during State Council Meeting

State Council Meeting, August 1, 2015

North Carolina Society United Daughters of 1812 State Council Meeting
Welcome to our new State President, Ms. Elaine Baldasare

President Betsy Hamer with new State President, Elaine Baldasare

Commissioner Charles Gause Chapter was well represented at the State Council Meeting with 11 members attending.  Chapter member Pat Elsaesser was sworn in as the new Recording Secretary for the State Council. Ms. Jenny Wilson presented a fabulous program entitled "Troublesome Years - 1812-1820."  She spoke about the weather in North America and Europe which took a bizarre turn with freezing temperatures and snow during the summer months that resulted in widespread crop failures and famine.  During that cold snap, Mary Shelley wrote her classic novel, Frankenstein.  It was discovered in later years, the climate change was caused by a volcanic eruption.
After a delicious lunch, chapter presidents spoke on what their chapters had accomplished during the year and WOW were the state's five chapters busy! Member Kay Kye was honored with a Military Service Award and certificate from National along with Carol Jutte for winning the National Scrapbook Award and Cindy Sellers for her 200th Anniversary Program of the Star Spangled Banner held at the Fort Johnston Garrison in Southport, NC.  In addition, we had the most new members join our chapter with a total of 11 and a certificate for our blog site - a big shout out to Phyllis Wilson for this major accomplishment!  President Betsy Hamer will announce all of the certificates at our next meeting. Congratulations members for all of your hard work and next year we will continue having fun while working for our communities and honoring our ancestors of 1812.
